About the artist:
This current body of work by Chris Totten is mostly a collection of
jars that could be considered as assemblages since they are largely
3-dimensional compositions put together via found objects. The contents of the jars are mostly things that he finds visually niteresting and/or relatable and also things that’re conceptually significant to his body of work such as contemporary imagery, collage, myth, and rituals.
Chris Totten is a recent graduate of Georgian College. His work often revolves around mythical aspects and ritual; as well as contemporary issues, concepts, and visual imagery. Encapsuled deals with these concepts via a series of jars wherein the aforementioned concepts are enclosed in jars-as a method of framing, a cultural signifier, and as a way to acknowledge many concepts in one enclosed and often cosy space.
Chris lives and works in Barrie.
